Safety is integral to firearms education, whether it’s training for firearm novices or refresher courses for enthusiasts who interact with firearms as part of their profession. First-time guests at Mission94 Firearms Education Center will learn how to responsibly handle, maintain, and store a firearm. These important lessons create a culture of responsible firearm ownership and a safe environment for all.
When visiting, make sure to adhere to policies, follow procedures, and listen to the directions of Range Safety Officers and staff. These policies were developed with firearm safety in mind; even a slight deviation can affect your safety and that of others. Here are some of the safety tips and policies you should know when visiting our state-of-the-art facility:
Protect yourself:
- Wear proper ear and eye protection at all times (such as ear plugs and safety glasses).
- Refrain from entering the training bay area if you’re pregnant since the shockwaves can disturb embryonic fluid.
- Avoid wearing shoes or clothing that expose skin, such as open-toed shoes or low-cut tops.
Load safely:
- Be sure your firearm is clean and safe to operate and that you use the correct ammunition.
- Do not use any prohibited ammunition, including steel-cased or aluminum-cased ammunition, tracer ammunition, incendiary ammunition, “Dragon breath” ammunition, hand-load ammunition, steel-core ammunition, Bolas ammunition, Flechette ammunition, Birdshot ammunition, and armor piercing ammunition.
- Heed the size rules – ammunition larger than 7.62×51/.308 is ONLY permitted in the 50-yard training bay.
Create a safe environment:
- Follow all instructions and commands from Mission94 Range Safety Officers and staff.
- NEVER cross the firing line.
- Do not consume food or drink in the training bays; keep bags and gear in designated spots.
Prepare to shoot safely:
- Treat every firearm as if it were loaded.
- Keep your finger off the trigger until you’ve decided to shoot.
- Keep the firearm safety on until it’s time to shoot.
Aim safely:
- Know your target and understand what is beyond it.
- Point the muzzle down range (no exceptions).
- Only aim/shoot at the target directly in front of your stall – cross-firing is prohibited.
