Firearm education is often overlooked, but it is one of the most important responsibilities that comes with ownership. Mission94 was built with this as a cornerstone. But where was the idea born?

The story goes that one of the owners of Mission94, Lieutenant Colonel Jennifer N. Pritzker (Retired), was reading a book that incorrectly labeled a part of a firearm. When she reached out to the author to let them know about the error, they dismissed the mistake, and said ‘A gun is a gun, what’s the difference?” That interaction inspired LTC Pritzker to begin the journey of creating a premier firearms facility that would serve to educate people about all aspects of firearms. Firearms are complex tools, and misunderstanding even basic parts can lead to dangerous outcomes.

Many people purchase new firearms without knowing how to operate them safely, or at all. Across the United States, while only 7.8 percent of Americans hold concealed carry permits, nearly half of the population (46.8 percent) lives in Constitutional Carry states, also known as permit-less carry states, where concealed carry is allowed without a permit. Since 2020, more than 26 million Americans have become first-time firearm owners, underscoring the importance of accessible, high-quality education.

Why Firearm Education Matters

Firearm education isn’t about restriction or fear. It’s about responsibility, respect, and informed decision-making. Effective training delivers lasting benefits, including:

  • Prevents accidents by teaching safe handling, storage, and awareness. Proper education reduces the risk of unintentional, negligent injuries by ensuring people understand how firearms function and how to store them securely when not in use.
  • Builds confidence so individuals can operate firearms without panic or confusion. Training helps people stay calm and focused, which is critical in situations where safe and responsible handling is required.
  • Promotes accountability by reinforcing the responsibility that comes with ownership. Education reminds firearm owners that their actions directly impact the safety of themselves and others around them.
  • Improves decision making, including knowing when not to use a firearm. Understanding laws, ethics, and safety principles helps individuals make responsible choices rather than reactive ones.
  • Strengthens communities by encouraging a culture of safety and informed ownership. When more people are educated, there are fewer misunderstandings and a greater shared commitment to preventing harm.

Education That Builds Safer Outcomes

Even before handling a firearm, it is important to be able to identify and follow the five primary safety rules: always keep the firearm pointed in a safe direction, treat all firearms as though they are loaded, keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot, keep the firearm on safe until you are ready to fire (when equipped), and always be sure of your target and what is beyond it. These rules are simple, but they are essential for preventing harm and ensuring responsible use.

Firearm education is not about fear or restriction. It is about respect, responsibility, and understanding. When people take the time to learn, they help create safer environments for everyone.

At Mission94, we believe firearm education should always be safe, structured, and accessible.
